Description
This three-movement string quartet parallels tales of air travel woes with the three main stages of a single jet’s flight journey. An ostinato-driven first movement captures the anxiety of a trip’s beginning, while a more drawn-out second movement mirrors the stagnancy of cruising altitude punctuated by bumps of turbulence.A joyous scherzo-like third movement closes up the piece with the celebratory relief of wheels touching down on earth at last.
I. Trepidation (Taxi/Takeoff)
II. Missed Connection(s) (Cruising Altitude)
III. “…the captain has turned on the fasten seat belt sign…” (Descent & Landing)
